Why Your Credit Report Can Stop You From Getting The Job Or Promotion

How your credit can get you hired, fired, and even stop a promotion. Part ii of iv: Why your credit report can stop you from getting the job or promotion.

Why can lousy credit stop you from getting a job or promotion?  Because employers consider even excellent credit as just average in their hiring decisions. So anything less than ideal credit can significantly hurt your chances of getting hired.

In part i, we learned most employers aren’t qualified to review your credit report.  Additionally, most don’t know the difference between good or excellent credit by looking at a credit report with no negative items (remember: employers can’t see your credit score, only your credit report)

To help you prepare for an interview, let’s examine how employers interpret your credit report.

  • Great Credit Report: Your credit shows you have an excellent chance for a job or promotion. However, most employers see this as average credit.
  • Good Credit Report: You’ve proven you can keep your credit history in good shape. However, most employers will see this as average credit.
  • Normal Credit Report: Employers will most likely not use your credit in their hiring decision.
  • Below Normal Credit Report: Your credit might be a problem. Employers are more likely to look at the detail of your credit and ask questions.
  • Bad Credit Report: Employers will consider you with sub-prime credit. They are less likely to hire you or more likely to pay you less.
  • Very Bad Credit Report: You might be an employment risk, and your hiring prospects could be minimal.

Be proactive! Make sure your credit is the best it should be using our Action Buttons to fix errors, get goodwill corrections of negatives and settle debts.  It works fast and is very effective.
